Tasmania
There is an obvious reason why Tasmania is close to Ricky’s heart and why the Ponting family will forever be linked to the island state. Ricky’s formative years growing up in Launceston helped shape his career and his life as it is today. He and his family remain committed to helping his ‘home’ state in any way possible.
What may be less obvious is why there is a need for organisations such as the Ponting Foundation to help young Tasmanians with cancer.
Tasmanian families dealing with cancer face unique challenges; quite often having to uproot their lives to relocate to the mainland to access appropriate care for their children. This often leads to financial hardship through loss of income and increased costs, but also tests relationships at the very time when stability in a family unit is paramount.
The Foundation has already provided significant funding to Tasmania-specific initiatives over the past two decades, but it’s now time to reinforce this support.
The Ponting Foundation initiated a Tasmania-specific plan in January 2025 with the aim to assist every Tasmanian family who has a child diagnosed with cancer. The plan was launched with the extraordinary support of the Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania together with the Tasmanian Government, a number of premium corporate partners as well as generous individual donors of the Ponting Foundation.
This is a critical priority for the Foundation across the coming three years and other initiatives associated with the program, will be announced via its social and media channels.
